About
This sculpture was based off a blooming dandelion in flower form.
- Prototyping & process: Cardstock model with individually glued petals; Exemplified a difficult fabrication method when later translating to metal .
- Final fabrication: Four round layers were punched out and hand shears were used to create a profile of 12-20 petals depending on the size; Each layer was hammered for texture, then spot-welded together, creating a flat layered piece; Petals were bent one by one creating a subtle floral whorl. Petals around the center bulb were cut thinner for a realistic silhouette, and the final structure was welded to pencil rod for a sturdy foundation.
